RightChange: The Next Item On The President’s List Of Things To Blame
Tue, December 06, 2011President Obama is known for his odd explanations for why the unemployment rate is so high. Natural Disasters, the Arab Spring, Bush, Congress, and even ATM’s have been victims of the Obama economic blame game. The latest: the Internet..? Yes, the network that allows us to email, research, shop, and gather information is responsible for job losses, according to Obama.
Invoking his new Theodore Roosevelt campaign style, he said the following at a campaign event in TexasKansas:
"Layoffs too often became permanent, not part of the business cycle. And these changes didn't just affect blue-collar workers. If you were a bank teller or a phone operator or a travel agent, you saw many in your profession replaced by ATMs and the internet," President Obama said at a campaign event in Kansas.”
While we would not be surprised if the President called on CEO’s to start reducing their dependence on domestic Internet as a shared sacrifice for the “blue collar worker”, we will refrain from getting into literal debate. Instead, the focus should be on his failure to deliver.
In 2009, President Obama said this:
"My administration has a job to do as well. That job is to get this economy back on its feet. That's my job, and it's a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, "Well this is Obama's economy." That's fine. GIVE IT TO ME. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and carp and gripe. So, I welcome the job. I want the responsibility."
It’s nice of Mr. Obama to accept the economy, but he is the President of the United States, that’s what we are paying him for. It is hypocritical to hear him say he clearly understands that good leaders do not blame, then watch him make comments like he did in Kansas today.
Many argue that President Obama has failed to deliver on the economy. He has delivered though: Stimulus, Obamacare, Unemployment benefit extensions, and Energy loans are all a part of his economic solutions. Those were all passed in the name of job creation yet all of them caused our unemployment rate to grow higher since he took office. If the economy keeps heading in the direction is has been for the past 21 months, Mr. Obama is going to run out of things to blame it on.
