RightChange: Polls Show Republican Budget Favored
Fri, April 29, 2011Today marks the end of Congressman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) town hall tour in Wisconsin explaining his budget. Obama, Pelosi and the Democrats have made unbelievable efforts to demonize Paul Ryan’s plan. The Democratic motto for politics should be changed to “If you can’t beat them, distract them.” Recent polls show Democrats aren’t doing a very good job of diverting the American public’s attention.
Democrats have put forth no plan whatsoever to reform Medicare. Therefore, they have continued to pursue their scare tactic strategy. Pelosi recently led a crowd in a chant: “Hands off our Medicare."
If only the people chanting realized how soon Medicare would bankrupt if they let Pelosi get her hands on it. Thankfully, there are majorities of people who are able to see Republicans seem to be the only ones serious about saving us from the most predictable economic crisis in History.
A recent poll shows:
“Americans say Republicans in Congress would do a better job than Democrats in dealing with the U.S. budget, according to a poll released Friday that shows President Barack Obama's party at a disadvantage as lawmakers near another showdown over federal spending.”
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) knows this, which is why he is challenging Reid to vote on the Democrat’s budget if the Republican one is so bad:
“A day after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) put Republicans on the spot by saying he will bring the House Republicans’ budget proposal up for a vote, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) turned the tables by exercising his legislative prerogative to call for a vote on President Barack Obama’s budget.”
The two votes amount to legislative brinkmanship by both party leaders. Mr. Reid wants to put Republicans on record supporting legislation authored by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) that would eventually transform Medicare and Medicaid. Mr. McConnell, meanwhile, wants to force Democrats to vote on a plan that rolls back Bush-era tax cuts for people who make more than $250,000 and ignores many of the long-term costs driving the deficit.”
If Democrats spent more effort in coming up with a plan to reform Medicare instead of demonizing Paul Ryan’s, maybe Reid would have a piece of legislation worth calling a vote for. Oh wait; the Democrats don’t have a plan.
