RightChange: Obama’s Spokesman: No Magic Solution for Gas Prices
Tue, February 21, 2012If you’ve been to the gas station in the past 48 hours, you are probably pretty upset. Gas prices are soaring and they are here to stay. Many economists are predicting $5/gallon gas by the summer. The most maddening thing besides paying almost $4 per gallon for gas is knowing there is no good reason why you should have to pay that much. The United States has the largest energy resources in the world. In fact, there is enough oil to maintain America’s current rate of production and replace imports from the Persian Gulf for more than 50 years. We also have enough coal reserves to last a couple centuries. The Obama administration has made a conscious effort not to tap into it. Even worse? They want you to believe there is nothing they can do about it.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said there are “no magic solutions to rising oil prices and the pain that Americans feel at the pump.”
That is just plain silly. How about the Keystone XL Pipeline? That wasn’t a magic solution; it was common sense. Of course, it made sense to the American public, but not his reelection team. The Obama administration has turned their backs on the poor by refusing to tap into one of America’s biggest treasure troves. If you want lower gas prices, then elect a candidate who is willing to take advantage of our resources.
