RightChange: Obama Largest Deficit In One Month

There are 12 days left until the government shuts down and Republicans and Democrats are wasting precious time arguing over cutting $60 billion from the 2011 budget.  Technically you cannot even include Democrats in that statement; they want to cut $10 billion.   Even if Republicans got $60 billion in cuts passed, it wouldn’t cover half of what Obama spent in February.

You read that correctly, in 28 days, Obama spent more money in one month than anyone has spent in one month in all U.S. History.

“The federal government posted its largest monthly deficit in history in February at $223 billion, according to preliminary numbers the Congressional Budget Office released Monday morning.

That figure tops last February’s record of $220.9 billion, and marks the 29th straight month the government has run in the red — a modern record. The last time the federal government posted even a monthly surplus was September 2008, just before the financial collapse.”

Are Republicans really serious about cutting federal spending? They have proposed cuts totaling $61 billion.  Considering the interest on our federal debt alone is $207 billion, $61 billion is less than one-third of our interest.  Our budget deficit is $1.6 trillion-the largest deficit in History.   This year’s budget proposes $3.819 trillion in new spending. Suddenly, $61 billion in cuts from almost $4 trillion in new spending seems like nickels.

So why are Republicans fighting for nickels?  And even more importantly, why are Democrats fighting for pennies?  Democrats only want to cut $10 billion.  This really is fiscal insanity.  Even if Republicans were successful in cutting the $100 billion they originally pledged to cut, that wouldn’t cover half of what Obama spent in February.

Hot Air gave a great comparison worth sharing:

“I must be getting old.  I can recall the days when an annual federal deficit of $223 billion was enough to send Democrats screaming to cable news shows about the profligacy of George W. Bush and his ruinous economic policies.  That seems so quaint these days as the Obama administration posts a record $223 billion deficit — for a single month:”

Obama spends more in one month than George W. Bush did in a year and Republicans get demonized for wanting to cut $60 billion?  Someone needs to get a grip on the Congressmen and women and explain to them what real budget cuts look like.

I can’t beleive Obama has spent the most in one month in all of U.S history! This has to be stopped or else our country will continue to suffer.

It’s scary to think that the last time we were in this situation was September o 2008 before the financial collapse, let’s hope we can get enforce the budget cuts and get the economy back on track.
