RightChange: No Such Thing As Obama’s War Savings Bank Account

If a friend who was bankrupt told you that he was using the money he planned to spend on a boat one day to pay for a house right now, you would think he was crazy. Just because he had plans to buy a boat one day doesn’t mean he or she actually had the money for it. There is no boat savings bank account because there is no money in it.  It is just simply money your friend planned to spend one day.  Your friend is now not only silly, but also fiscally irresponsible.  He also has a lot in common with President Barack Obama.

In President Obama’s State of the Union, he announced he would use the money we were planning to spend on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and use it to pay for construction projects:

“In the next few weeks, I will sign an Executive Order clearing away the red tape that slows down too many construction projects. But you need to fund these projects. Take the money we're no longer spending at war, use half of it to pay down our debt, and use the rest to do some nation-building right here at home.”

This statement alone should tell you what a terrible budgeter our President is. Another group of terrible budgeters are the Democratic members of Congress in the Senate.  They have been the majority since 2007 and have failed to produce a budget in over 1,000 days.  How are we supposed to spend less money when we don’t even know how much money we have to spend??  Regular families work within a budget and there is no reason the United States shouldn’t either.

Money that you plan to save doesn’t count as more money you have to spend. There is no money in the war savings bank account.  We are in so much debt (over $15 trillion) that we are becoming desensitized to it.  That doesn’t mean we should settle for such ridiculous budget gimmicks. This clearly shows that as long as he is president, the debt will always increase because he won't stop spending money we do not have.
