RightChange: Durbin Thinks Anyone Can Be President!
Thu, June 30, 2011It’s amazing how much the Left chastises the right for making gaffes about pop culture when they consistently make false claims about the very document that gives them a job: the Constitution. This week has been a prime example of this double standard.
GOP Hopeful Michele Bachmann did an interview with Fox News that she had the same spirit of John Wayne as he was from Waterloo, Iowa. Turns out, John Wayne never lived in Waterloo, but his parents did. Michele Bachmann’s critics could have left it at that and let the viewer decide if she was truly crazy for making a “no big deal” mistake. That of course would mean the Left would have been mature about something for once. Instead, they spread a rumor that Bachmann secretly identifies with John Wayne Gacy – the serial killer. The amount of attention spent discussing the desperate attempts from the Left to paint Republicans as evil rich serial killer supporters is completely out of control; large in part because it leaves no time for reporting actual stupidity.
Please see video for an example from Democratic Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and/or accompanying transcript:
“After using illegal immigrants as props to push the DREAM Act, Sen. Durbin (D-IL) made the following statement at a Senate committee hearing:
"When I look around this room, I see America's future. Our doctors, our teachers, our nurses, our engineers, our scientists, our soldiers, our Congressman, our Senators and maybe our President."
However, Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution says: "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."
Michele Bachmann was referencing an actor, comparing her “spirit” to his. It is acceptable if she misspoke about John Wayne’s birthplace – a common pop culture mistake. However, it is unacceptable for a politician who should be a constitutional scholar to claim that illegal aliens can be President. Now it makes complete sense why the Democrats went up in arms when the House GOP leaders read the constitution on their first day in session. What’s worse, the DREAM Act, or the fact that a Senate Democrat didn’t know you couldn’t be President if you weren’t a natural born citizen?
I would much rather have one of my leaders be uninformed on pop culture than the Constitution!!!
The Democrats need to be less concerned with a presidential hopefuls pop culture knowledge and more concerned with their own representatives Constitutional knowledge.
