Right Change: President Obama says Chavez is Not a “Serious” Threat
Thu, July 12, 2012“Let’s save the human race, let’s finish off the U.S. empire.” Sounds pretty threatening, does it not? That’s a 2006 quote from “president” (if you use the term loosely) of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, self-proclaimed communist and open hater of America. Chavez has openly stated that the United States is the “first enemy” of Venezuela, gone on tours with the express goal “to accelerate the fall of imperialist (read American) hegemony”, and is an avid supporter or the Iran nuclear program. But really, he’s no threat at all. His alliance with Syrian President Bashar-al-Assad, support of Qaddafi, and position as mentee of the infamous Cuban dictator Fidel Castro aren’t a big deal either.
This is a declaration of complete ignorance and naïveté by President Obama, a cheap political play, or, even more troubling, an alignment with Chavez on some level. Perhaps Obama wants to avoid being dubbed “The Devil,” Chavez’ pet name for George W. Bush. Maybe this is just another example of Obama’s inexplicable clumsiness and subordinate attitude with respect to other world leaders. Whatever his rationale, we don’t like it.
Neither does Marco Rubio, Cuban-American Senator from Miami with personal stake in these issues. He commented, saying:
"Just yesterday, the Wall Street Journal detailed how Hugo Chavez circumvents U.S. and EU sanctions to help prop up the Assad regime in Syria. And even Obama's own State Department belatedly but rightly expelled Chavez's consul general in Miami for her ties to a plan to wage cyber-attacks on the U.S."
So what is President Obama talking about? Hugo Chavez as a world leader is a destructive force to democracy. In 2009 he abolished term limits in Venezuela, in hopes of remaining President long enough to complete his disturbingly castrista revolución. He supports la FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forced of Columbia), the narco-terrorist guerilla organization which has a long history of violence, murder, and kidnapping, inclusive of taking American hostages and holding them for over six years.
This is a notorious terrorist group that threatens all of the Americas, not to mention the world, and Hugo Chavez supports them. This is one of a long and bloody laundry-list of issues that explicitly make Chavez a threat to U.S. national security. Breitbart’s Joel Pollak was right in saying that “the U.S. has gone to war over less--most recently in Libya, where Obama acted because of the threat of atrocities.” Either Barack Obama supports leaders who want to “finish off’ America, or he truly is the “clown embarrassment” and an “ignoramus” Chavez says he is. Either way, he has some serious explaining to do.
