Right Change: Obamacare vs. Romneycare

Democrats are quick to point out the similarities between Governor Mitt Romney’s health care reform plan in Massachusetts and the one President Obama just had upheld by the SCOTUS as a tax. However, as one takes a closer look, there are stark contrasts which show how the two plans operate and are funded in very different ways. Romney, as he always seems to do, rolled out a power point presentation last year which details his plan and how it compares to the President’s. With all of the negative publicity about Obamacare, it is fair to ask Romney how he vows to carry out health care reform. You can see the entire presentation here. Below is a sample of the most critical slides.

President Obama desires to take this country to a single-payer nationalized healthcare system. Romney desires to give Americans choices for their healthcare: either pay for health insurance or self-fund your medical needs. Much of the reason for an increase in U.S. health care costs is due to those people who are free-loading on the system without contributing anything to support it. In Governor Romney’s plan, there are no free rides. In Obama’s plan, many ride while working-class Americans foot the bill.

Barack Obama wants to take the decision out of the hands of the individual states (a violation of the 10th Amendment, mind you) and place it with his all-powerful Federal government. Mitt Romney wants states to vote on it and decide for themselves what works in their own backyard. Funny, but it seems one plan is eerily similar to what our Founding Fathers wanted when they wrote the Constitution of this great nation. The other seems like European socialism at its best.

The bottom line is Obamacare cannot survive without taxing someone. It has no funding without raising the money from somewhere and, as usual, Obama and the Democrats have decided to target the middle-class. They do not seem to realize the very people they say they are trying to protect are the ones out there struggling to make a living under the burden of federal regulations and taxes. Obamacare is the largest tax increase on the middle class in U.S. history. Romneycare is a state-based, state-created reform that gives all Americans a choice without bankrupting the U.S. economy or raising taxes. Which one would you prefer?
