Right Change: Obama Files FEC Complaint to Reveal Romney Donors
Wed, June 20, 2012In a not so shocking event, the lawyer for President Obama has demanded that Crossroads GPS disclose its donors. Robert Bauer states in the letter to the FEC that the group is a “political committee” that is subject to reporting.
Of course this letter was “obtained” by the NY Times and is no more than a propaganda tool to once again try and smear Republicans as only interested in big business. In his letter, Bauer states that Crossroads GPS can no longer shield the identity of its donors by defining itself as a social welfare organization.
“Crossroads seems to believe that it can run out the clock and spend massive sums of money in this election without accounting for a trace of its funding,” Mr. Bauer wrote in the complaint, filed Tuesday.
As Ed Morrisey at Hot Air put it, “Translation: A President’s critics should be entirely transparent, but not a President or his campaign.” And Ed is exactly right. The only reason this is taking place is because the notedly thin skinned Obama, who promised to raise $1 billion for his campaign, is all of the sudden being severely out paced.
Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for Crossroads, also brought up a great point in regards to Obama’s latest demands.
“In general, we’re skeptical of letters that are sent to the New York Times and we’re cc’d on them. The big question is whether Bauer’s letter would apply to environmental groups that spent millions of dollars reframing environmental issues in an election year. Issue advocacy and issue education have been going on for decades. The left only seems to have gotten fired up about it when conservative groups started undertaking these tactics.”
Ed Morrisey also asked the question, “Why not just give the Obama campaign the list of donors? It’s not as if they’ll launch a campaign of intimidation against individuals who put their money into opposing this administration. Obama’s allies won’t demonize them for their political activism, right? That never happens.”
Everything Barak Obama does is a political move to silence those who oppose him and take hold of as much power possible. As Collegio stated so well, if Obama is so opposed to big donors, special interest groups and transparency, why not start with all the democratic special interest groups and shadow donors like George Soros? Are leaders not supposed to lead by example?
Obama has made it perfectly clear that if you oppose him he will try and silence you. Democrats do not want free speech, highly educated voters and people with money to do with as they please and take care of themselves. Obama and the Democrats are seeking to silence anyone with opposing views. They want all the power held by those who they view as the elite few. They prefer an under-educated majority who will become increasingly dependant on government and the elites who will make everyday decisions for them. This is sadly nothing more than another attempt by Obama to silence people and hold them in bondage to the few selected elites who think they can run our lives better than we can.
